IBE Vibes Shabbaton December 2025

IBE Vibes led a girls Shabbaton Dec 5-6 in Lakewood NJ. Participants joined from Brooklyn, upstate NY and NJ. The Shabbaton was a great opportunity to socialize with peers, network, and explore recreational activities. Some of the activities included playing adapted board games, puzzles, and building legos with adapted instructions (refer to our General Resources page for more information). On Motzei Shabbos we had a beautiful Kumzitz and did some dancing. The event included women and girls who are visually impaired, their family members, and professionals in the field.

The Blind Leading The Sighted Awareness Event

Held on August 27, 2025, this transformative event aimed to foster greater understanding and empathy within the community by highlighting the experiences, challenges, and capabilities of visually impaired individuals. Through engaging activities and performances, attendees gained insight into the lives of those with visual impairments, promoting inclusivity and awareness.

The event featured a blend of educational sessions, personal stories, and a comedic skit that humorously addressed common misconceptions about visual impairment. Participants left with a deeper appreciation for accessibility and the importance of community support for the visually impaired.

IBE Vibes 2025/Kosher Camp Abilities 2025

From June 29 to July 6, 2025, IBE Vibes/Kosher Camp Abilities 2025 hosted an empowering week-long program for 10 participants aged 8 to 30. The camp emphasized adaptive sports tailored for the visually impaired, alongside workshops on daily living skills, self-advocacy, and work-readiness, fostering independence and confidence.

This immersive experience brought together visually impaired individuals for a transformative week of learning, physical activity, and community building. Participants engaged in sports like goalball and blind soccer, mastered practical life skills, and developed strategies for self-advocacy and professional growth, all within a supportive and inclusive environment.

Shabbaton/Kosher Camp Abilities 2024

From June 7 to June 9, 2024, Insight Beyond Eyesight hosted an inspiring Shabbaton in collaboration with Kosher Camp Abilities, welcoming 40 visually impaired individuals and their families. This enriching weekend provided a unique platform for networking, skill development, and resource sharing, fostering a sense of community and empowerment. The Shabbaton featured a diverse array of activities, including adaptive sports, workshops on self-advocacy, and discussions on overcoming challenges. Participants connected with peers, shared experiences, and explored resources to enhance their independence and quality of life. The event was a celebration of resilience and community spirit.

Pre-Chanukah Get Together

On December 4, 2022, Insight Beyond Eyesight partnered with the Jewish Children's Museum to host an engaging and educational Pre-Chanukah Get Together. This event welcomed visually impaired children and their families for a tactile exploration of Jewish culture and hands-on activities, creating a memorable and inclusive experience.

Children enjoyed a tactile tour of Jewish artifacts and history, gaining a deeper understanding of their heritage through touch and sound. They also participated in an interactive presentation on olive oil production and crafted their own wax candles, bringing the Chanukah spirit to life. Meanwhile, adults engaged in a productive discussion, sharing practical tips and strategies for navigating daily life with visual impairments.

Shabbaton 2019

From May 31 to June 2, 2019, CSB Care and Insight Beyond Eyesight co-hosted the Shabbos of Light, a transformative Shabbaton at the Raleigh Hotel. This event brought together 40 visually impaired individuals, professionals, and guests for a weekend of inspiration, skill-building, and community connection.

The Shabbaton offered a rich program of adaptive sports, educational workshops, and insightful discussions led by experts in the blindness field, including the founder of Camp Abilities, Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialists. Participants explored topics such as physical fitness, self-advocacy, and overcoming challenges, leaving with new skills and a stronger sense of community.
