From May 31 to June 2, 2019, CSB Care and Insight Beyond Eyesight co-hosted the Shabbos of Light, a transformative Shabbaton at the Raleigh Hotel. This event brought together 40 visually impaired individuals, professionals, and guests for a weekend of inspiration, skill-building, and community connection.
The Shabbaton offered a rich program of adaptive sports, educational workshops, and insightful discussions led by experts in the blindness field, including the founder of Camp Abilities, Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs), and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialists. Participants explored topics such as physical fitness, self-advocacy, and overcoming challenges, leaving with new skills and a stronger sense of community.
Shabbos of Light | CSB Kosher Weekend 2019
The Shabbos of Light 2019, held at the Raleigh Hotel, was a landmark event that united 40 visually impaired individuals with professionals and guests in a supportive and inclusive setting. The weekend was designed to empower participants through shared experiences and practical learning.
The Camp Abilities team led a variety of adaptive sports, including goalball, beep baseball, fitness training, and track and field. These activities highlighted the potential of visually impaired individuals to engage in physical pursuits with the right adaptations, fostering confidence and camaraderie.
Expert-led workshops featured Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVIs) and Orientation and Mobility (O&M) specialists, who provided guidance on daily living skills, navigation techniques, and self-advocacy. These sessions equipped participants with tools to enhance their independence and quality of life.
